Launching WIAL-UK

July 2010

The World Institute of Action Learning (WIAL) will be launched in the UK by Prof. Michael Marquardt who will lead a Foundations of Action Learning workshop on October 19th and 20th, 2010 at Dorney Lakes, Eton College, around 25 miles west of central London. From 2011 the full range of WIAL programmes will be offered in the UK, enabling action learners to achieve certification on an ongoing basis.

As might be expected in a global, networked organization, initial discussions on setting up WIAL-UK were held in Kuala Lumpur in December 2009. Mike outlined his vision for WIAL to Eric Sandelands of Corporate Learning Consultants Ltd. in his usual inspiring way at a seminar entitled Optimizing the power of action learning for teaching and learning for high performing academicians organized by AKEPT Higher Education Leadership Academy, part of the Ministry of Higher Education of Malaysia.

The threads of the debate were then taken up at a conference at Henley Business School, Action Learning: Assessing the Value in March, 2010. Mike was able to meet with (and inspire) Ganesh Ashokan and Luke Sandelands of Corporate Learning Consultants who will promote and administer WIAL programmes in the UK.
