Influence & Assertiveness, Clonmel, Ireland

19th April 2010

The Minella Hotel in Clonmel provided a peaceful and majestic venue for the Influence & Assertiveness skills enhancement course to be delivered for Kentz people based in Ireland. The course was held over two days, April 19 and 20, 2010 with participants drawn from the finance department, business development, human resources and the Technical Support Services global business unit.

Live issues were addressed and the group were encouraged to form a mutually supportive network. At the end of each day “reflections” were taken from each participant. They included:

“The course has taught me to be open to new areas of thinking. I can reflect better on situations that I’m in or I put others in. I’ve become more knowledgeable of different approaches. There are areas where I can now teach others.”

“I’ll become more active in decision-making and seek to overcome my self-doubt. I feel I can go forward with things, be more effective, empowered and in control of my own destiny.”

“The biggest thing I got is that we’re from different departments but we’re all in the same organization working towards the same goals. I’ll speak up more.”

“Assertiveness recognizes that your needs and wants are just as important as those of others. I need to practice it, and think about winning language and body language, and stop starting sentences with the word “sorry”.

“i) Take small steps and take on something achievable. ii) Stand back from the problem and see the whole situation. iii) The need to be more transparent.”
