Emerald Academy Set 4, Bingley, UK

19th January 2009

Emerald Academy Set 4 commenced on January 19, 2009 at Emerald Publishing Group Ltd’s headquarters in Bingley, West Yorkshire, UK. 24 managers will work in groups of four on work-based action learning projects agreed with the senior leaders of the organization.

Emerald’s founder Dr Keith Howard and CEO John Peters, pictured above, joined the second workshops to provide board-level feedback on the projects to be undertaken.

The programme uses the action learning approach throughout, with the managers forming six teams to address six organizational challenges, and additionally completing an individual review of learning document. This year’s projects are:

  • Incentivising practitioner authors to deliver “research you can use”;
  • Recognition: completing the Emerald total reward package;
  • Regional web pages – guidelines and recommendations;
  • Abstracting and indexing services and their impact on usage and citation;
  • Emerald global operations; and
  • Teaching Emerald content.

All projects have a senior manager acting as internal “client” and a support network drawn from around the firm. Projects will be completed by 31st July, 2009 and formally presented to a panel of senior managers and guests during September 2009.
