Presentation to the British Institute for Learning & Development
13th May 2008On Tuesday, May 13, 2008, Dr. Matthew Hind of Corporate Learning Consultants Limited and Ms. Amanda Briggs, Head of R&D for Emerald Publishing Group Limited presented a paper entitled “Embracing Web 2.0 Technologies” to the British Institute for Learning & Development. Web 2.0 applications tend to be those that help people share knowledge and information.

At an event hosted by Middlesex University, Hendon, London Matt and Amanda discussed and demonstrated a case study of usage of the Emerald InTouch social networking system within Kentz Engineers & Constructors.
To an audience of academics, consultants and learning specialists from organizations including the UK Ministry of Defence, their presentation highlighted:
- Learning and career development objectives and process within Kentz;
- The international nature of Kentz business and challenges developing people around the world;
- A focus on the early career Supervisory Management Development Programme, including mentoring;
- The use of a blend of approaches combining experiential learning on-the-job with workshops and online support.
The other speakers at the event were:
- “Knowledge and organization”, Prof. Jonathan Garnett, Director of the Institute for Work Based Learning at Middlesex University;
- “The impact of work based learning professional doctorate projects”, Dr. Pauline Armsby, Leader of the Doctorate Programme at the Institute for Work Based Learning at Middlesex University; and
- “It’s not just about driving trains”, Nick Rushby and Jan Seabrook, of Conation Technologies on use of simulation in training in the rail industry.
