Des Hickie helps organisations develop their management and leadership capacity, to build the contribution their managers make to the achievement of business goals. He works at all levels, from top teams to the front line, aligning personal development with business needs.
His expertise includes –
Working with businesses to identify their strategic goals, and the leadership and management behaviours needed to deliver them.
Designing and delivering bespoke leadership and management development programmes, that both address individual needs and directly enhance the individual’s contribution towards achieving business goals.
Creating and implementing effective organisational change management processes.
Team building and effective team working.
Enabling organisations to achieve professional and/or university accreditation for their training programmes.
During a career spanning over 30 years, Des has taught at 5 universities (Teesside, Durham, Liverpool John Moores, Jena (Germany) and Chester). During that time he has co-designed 8 MBA programmes and numerous other specialist qualifications in leadership and management. He was until recently Dean of Chester Business School. He has a BSc in Economics from the University of Wales, and both an MSc and a PhD from the University of London. He is an Emeritus Professor of the University of Chester.
For the past 20 years he has worked as a consultant to a very wide variety of large and small organisations, designing and delivering leadership and management programmes created explicitly to enhance their business performance. These include Ford, BMW, Land Rover, Littlewoods Group, J. Sainsbury, the Co-operative Bank, Liverpool City Council and Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council. In addition he has acted as an advisor to both the European Commission and the European TUC.
Des is married with 2 grown up sons. He coaches rugby and enjoys good wine in his spare time.
